Máté Bella is a Hungarian composer and habilitated Associate Professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. He graduated in composition in 2011, studying with Prof. Gyula Fekete, and later spent a semester at the Academy of Music in Kraków with Prof. Wojciech Widłak as an Erasmus scholar. He received a scholarship from the Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation in 2014 and became a founding member of Studio 5, a collective of contemporary composers, in 2016. He earned his DLA degree with summa cum laude honours in 2018 and completed his habilitation in 2025. Bella is a member of the Artisjus Committee of Classical Music Authors, the Association of Hungarian Composers, the Board of Trustees of the Bartók Béla–Ditta Pásztory Prize, and the composer section of the Hungarian Film Academy Association. His works have been performed by ensembles including Ensemble InterContemporain, London Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, Münchener Kammerorchester, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, UMZE Chamber Ensemble and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. His theatre music has also been presented by the Hungarian State Opera, the Hungarian National Theatre, Vígszínház, Budapest Operetta Theatre, Budapest Puppet Theatre and the Berlin University of the Arts.
